We were given a task as a group to go out and film a short sequence of any genre without any instructions, this meant we learnt from our mistakes.
DO'S
1. Plan before you film because by doing this you will find it a lot easier too. By planning before you film this ables you to have a better idea of what you're going to be filming and the shot types; also when editing the film it will be in the correct order rather than randomly so you will be more organised.
2.Make sure you have the correct equipment before you start such as the tripod and the camera including the memory card so your clips can save to it. You should use a tripod because this makes it more balanced rather than holding it yourself and it being shaken around as your hand isn't still.By using a tripod it makes it easier to get certain angles and different levels when filming whether it being low or high.
3.You need to use appropriate props when filming because you need it to look realistic. An example of a realistic prop would be a knife because it fits the genre of horror because its more gory where as if you use a gun this fits the genre of action a lot more because knifes involve more blood than guns do.
4.When you are casting you need to make sure it doesn't get too confusing for the audience so you need to look at it at the audiences point of view as well as your own. With the genre horror you usually see a female as a victim and the killer as a male so you need to arrange this some how with in your group.
5. Stick to the script and you will be a lot more organised because if you keep checking it you will know what you have done and also what you haven't done.
6.Finally you need to keep it simple for the audience, don't complicate the story line too much as it could lead the audience to confusion and yourself. It will be easier for you when you come to edit the videos and being able to watch it too. Your main purpose is to please your audience so they enjoy the film and not doing the complete opposite by confusing them to the point they find it boring/un-enjoyable.
Dont's
1.You need to make sure that you are using the correct and appropriate language for your target audience because, for example;some target audience ages you cant use inappropriate language such as, 15 years there isn't as much inappropriate language as 18+.
2.Make sure when filming you do not pan too much because this can be called 'lazy filming' as you are just going around, sometimes this could make people feel dizzy and as an audience it could link in the same ways. You need a range of shots and angles when filming so that it can link to the character, for example; if the character is powerful you may have an over the shoulder shot on a high angle because they are looking down at another character, By having a range of shots and angles this keeps the audience more interested.
The main filming rule
The big main rule when filming is called the 180 degree rule, this is to show continuity and make the scene more smooth. A good example of the 180 degree rule is two characters having a conversation but you have to stay on the same side for both characters when filming. This could impact on the audience by making them feel as if they are involved in the scene.
