In an opening sequence titles are very crucial as they tell the audience the name sof important people who helped make the film not only this but the companys that paid towards this film. Unlike ending film credits, opening titles are normally presented in a more interesting way which also with somes films tie in with the storyline. A good example of this is the Grudge Trilogy, as when their opening titles appear they shown after in between flowing black hair ( Hair of the Grudge) . They make their Titles look more sinister by having their Simple Black text in front of a blood red background. After watching many opening title sequences, we found that the titles were on the screen for not long and the amount of titles used was kept to the necessary few. It wasn't till after we watched a title sequence with a larger quantity of titles that we realised that this was because the audience would get bored and would lack the amount of concentration to enjoy the film if the opening title sequence was too long.
When deciding the name of our Horror Movie, we wrote down a list of all potential titles including: 'Retaliation', 'Scorned', 'The Scorning' and other titles. when brainstorming we realised that we wanted something that wasn't similar to other film titles and had a deeper meaning to the plot so we decided to look through words in the thesaurus which were to do with the words that we chose. when looking through we found a range of words to use as our title like: wicked, repugnant, bane and inimical. But after a group discussion, we decided on calling our film, "Malignant". We chose this title because it is easy to remember and we liked the meaning of it ( evil in nature). The initial plan was to have a short simple sentence as our title but when doing market research, we decided on just keeping the word Malignant on its own as the title. |
